| Don't panic through deadlines and work, you are not the only one.

by Laura Goddard

March 1 is National University Mental Health Day. Take a moment to destress and ace those deadlines.

With the exam period only two months away, and deadlines that are drowning you in books, you are probably thinking, "I did not sign up for this". You are not alone, every student is in the same situation as you. Researchers believe that most of our mental health problems develop in our early to mid-20s, partly due to the stress brought on by higher education.

March 1 is the National University Mental Health Day, and it occurs each year to address the mental health of students under pressure. Today is about helping students manage their wellbeing and set their mind to positive. While running from the library to a lecture, to a seminar, you will most likely bump into one or two campaigners for students’ mental health. With a big placard in their hands, they will probably try to enrol you in an event. The chance that you will reply to him is probably small. You’re overwhelmed and stressed, and maybe you are thinking, "I don’t have time for this".

But the fact of the matter is, we should all make time for our mental health. So, as the day goes along, try and notice some of these students all over university. Approach one, look at the sign and see what it says:

"Be active for your mental health."

Run by Student Minds and University Mental Health Day, the aim of the campaign is to tackle loneliness and stress among students. As well as raising awareness in regards to mental health, campaigners hope to make universities understand how social networking is important to combat student mental illness. Everyone who has signed up to the event is participating in sports and other activities to help destress in such tensed period.

Sign up, be active on Twitter #UniMentalHealthDay, share your plans for events and help others!
